Target audience mood board

Baring in mind that my final music magazine will be aimed for both males and females, I have researched into the main stereotypical individuals who are likely to be interested in the genre of music that my magazine is based around as well as all of the selling lines, inner articles and headlines included.

When researching, I looked into different well-known celebrities that befitted my magazine and their typical appearance and compared it to the appearance of my magazine. These artists included people such as "Miley Cyrus", "Ed Sheeran", "Bruno Mars" and "Ben Howard". When analysing the kinds of people that I chose as my target audience, I came to the conclusion that the majority of individuals were aged between 18 and 28 and are both males and females. I feel that due to this case, it it clear that the acoustic genre is mainly enjoyed by young adults who are at their prime age of exploring different kinds of music and coincidentally, are the same age as many artists who perform/write and are a band member of acoustic music. I would suggest that by virtue of many music festivals being open for people aged 16+, many students will experience acoustic music and later gain interest and acknowledgement of different artists.

I chose to aim my music magazine at young adults due to the assumption that at the age of 20+, it is most likely for an individual to be given a job in a workplace than any other age. Whilst having this recognition, I would expect young adults to have the money to appreciate reading a music magazine. In addition, at a young age of 18-25, both genders are beginning to take pride in their clothing and have more of an interest in their general appearance. A music magazine that is full of beautiful artists, gossip and the latest fashion is a persuasion for all 20 year old's to purchase the magazine and customise their own look with ideas and opinions that are given.

It is usually stereotyped that people who have a certain clothes style are categorised into different groups. Due to my magazine being based around acoustic music, I researched into many artists and their fans clothing and I often found that they mostly wore items that would suggest them being “indie” or “hippies”. With this information, the main appearance of my magazine will link in with this category and include many symbols and colours mainly worn by these people. I found that sunglasses, denim outfits, necklaces, bracelets, rings, straw hats, flower head bands and long wavy hair were often the image that was found most appealing. By including these characteristics within my music magazine, I hope that the suited target audience will be persuaded to invest in my published magazine.

Not only have I researched into the typical image of the celebrities who enjoy acoustic music, but also normal, everyday people who would be interested in my magazine. These people will predominantly enjoy listening to artist's such as "John Mayer", "Mumford and Sons", "Jack Johnson", "First Aid Kit" and "KT Tunstall". Whilst keeping this in mind, I will be including some of the named artists within my magazine to make sure that my target audience find it a persuasion to purchase it.

Within acoustic music, there are certain sub-genre's such as "Indie", "pop", "country" and "modern folk". These sub-genres will be the main music genres that my target audience will be interested in and will therefore be included within my magazine.

Due to the target audience that I have discovered for my magazine, I feel that I will be aiming my magazine at people who are predominantly middle class. People who tend to visit music festivals, buy all the latest fashion, have an acoustic music interest and buy indie magazines will commonly have an ideal amount of money. Due to this, the price for my magazine will perhaps be more than the average amount but still low enough to persuade students to purchase it monthly.

As seen in this image, indie people are often, stereotypically, uplifting, cheerful and bubbly people who are up for having a laugh and a great time. For this reason, I know that including upcoming festival dates, latest fashion tips, a great use of humoured writing and puns and using visually appealing, conspicuous colours for subtle features such as yellow, orange, blue, green and red will be ideal for connecting with their personalities, hobbies and interests.
